Andi Sexgang

May 4th 2008 08:35
Andi Sexgang is one of the great undiscovered wonders of the music world. I first discovered him when I found the Album ‘God on a Rope’ in a bargain bin.

God on a Rope is probably a bad place to begin with Andi Sexgang. It’s a great album, but easily one of the least accessible musically.

The second album I found here, this time attributed simply to ‘Sexgang’ is called ‘Last of England’ and is a tribute to Derik Jarman, a writer and director, after whose works each song is named.

This album melds atmospheric instrumentation to alternately beautiful and disturbing effect, mixed with spoken word pieces.

Comparatively, God on a rope is a dark ambient experiment in the limits of music, often stripped down to voice and disjointed sound. Few of the songs on ‘God’ are straightforward – ‘Cold Hard Stone’ is an almost sarcastically joyful piano song, with ‘God Dies’ and ‘Violin Valley’ as others that come close to a traditional song. As a rule, it seems on this album, Andi likes to use effective ambiance, percussion and melody – just rarely together or on the same track.

The two albums I’ve listed aren’t easy to get to, but you can find them on Amazon (I’ve included the obligatory Capitalist swine type link below... no I have not... lets put another instead... ).

Sexgang, while today shrouded in obscurity, was a major player at London’s Batcave, today recognised as one of the big shakers in the early gothic music scene.

There was a brand new surprise waiting for me when I came to post this article just the other day too; Andi has all but disappeared. He’s instead launching new albums, new tours etc. This stunned me; When I heard about him, you’d have to fight to find info; instead of finding information on his Wikipedia page, I made him a Wikipedia page (bastard better be thankful).

So yeah; more info, go to his site HERE; http://www.andisexgang.com/

You can find more of his material within the group Sex Gang Children.

Promoting Your Blog

May 1st 2008 11:18
OMG GUYZ I’VE GOT LIKE THE MOST AWESUM BLOG UP! Old story. The problem is, it’s no use being awesome if nobody knows it exists.

So how do you promote your blog? Here are some options.

Social Networking Sites. Digg is a great way to promote yourself. They way it works is that if you submit a webpage, people who like it will vote on it until, POP! it hits the frontpage. There is a similar set up for sites such as Reddit and Furl. If you have not already, go to these sites NOW and get an account. StumbleUpon has a similar setup, and is worth a look. Bookmarking your page on Del.icio.us is also a good first step.

People you know are the best place to start. They’ll be willing to look at your site anyway so flog it to them as hard as you can. A bulletin on Myspace is a good start.

Be a Corporate Slut. Some awesome dude on the net whom I have completely forgotten has a thing called sex and cash. The sex is the awesome – the cash is the needed. When Actor X stars in the low budget production of the play he’s helped to adapt form Swedish because he loves it, that’s the sex. When he does a cross promotional ad for his latest blockbuster movie, there’s the cash. So when you’re blogging about the latest celebraty gossip, there’s the cash. This will get you the steady traffic flow to be able to inject more of the sex into your work.
