Why I believe in Global Warming

August 10th 2007 07:04
I know that I could be like every other blogger on Earth and act as though I were an expert on the matter, a never ending source of scientific fact. But the truth is, most Climate Change 'experts', or 'GLO-BULL-Warming Conspiracy Warriors' just make it up, quoting big complicated studies they don't really understand.

polar bear megaphone
Um... Hello? Hellllooooo?

So this is why I believe in Climate Change.

1. People I speak to around the world report things getting unusual with the Weather. People I know visiting Torres Strait Islands report the water rising. People who have gone to Alaska report the Ice disappearing.

2. My understanding of scientific opinion, and the understanding that has been expressed by the scientifically inclined folk I know is that Climate Change is a reality, and is being caused or accelerated by Human action.

3. It is accepted as reality by most major Governments. It is accepted that Humans are causing or accelerating Climate Change by most Governments.

4. I have no evidence that Corporations have intentionally attempted to hide the truth. My knowledge of human nature through, and incidents such as a James Hardie's Corporate scandal along with many other Corporate scandals suggest to me it is likely.

5. Much of the anti-Global warming 'evidence' can be attributed to the fact that if you tell people to do anything in order to improve a situation, they're more inclined to whine, whinge and moan about it than do something about it.

I believe in climate change too.

I always respect the four seasons.

And incidentally is this you speaking, Brenton, or the Bear. I think he's cool, well, probably cold really, in there.

katyzzz....nothing wrong with my reasoning either.

My concern with this debate as with many heavy scientific debates is that few people can interpret the data correctly and every second person claims to be an expert.

However they never argue over the actual evidence. Instead it is always about the conspiracy and the hidden agendas. Never about the science.

The other problem is that some people think that science can be argued down the same way that everything else can be in politics. They actually believe that by shutting up the scientific debate you can stop the issue forever. Big mistake.

Personally the weight of the scientific community over 90% support the theory add a good deal. This does not mean that the theory is correct but it does mean that those that should know believe that it is correct.

I would like to believe that Global Warming is not real but that will not effect whether the evidence is correct. I am yet to see convincing evidence that indicates that we are being systematically swindled on this issue. Such a conspiracy would require giant leaps of implausible human actions and international co-operation to pull it off. I just can see that happening.

Global Warming theory is just that, a theory. It is rewarmed malthusian theory,, too many people, too much "pollution", get the oligarchy to kill half the population. Very bestial.

Why not have research in changing the climate. If we could have huge water projects to green the Sahara and other deserts, we would show that Man can really have a better climate. Oops! But, then we would be saving Third World people and not killing them. That is not what the big shots want.

It's time to quit this cult of psycho-sexual impotence.

Louie - I belive Youranter invented the term. You can find him on Orble.

I think Damo said it best.

Personally the weight of the scientific community over 90% support the theory add a good deal. This does not mean that the theory is correct but it does mean that those that should know believe that it is correct.

And, with all due respect Howard, I still can't see that the 'Environmentalism is a dark Neo Nazi conspiracy' theory makes any sense.

Or at least, it has less credibility than climate change.

Evolution is also 'a theory', howard, at least thats what Christian fundamentalists use to try to disprove it. Science is based on theories and global warming has ample proof that it is real.

tough luck there.

It's Baby boomer brainwashing. You love to kill, because it's sexy! Why not build water projects, build, grow even forests. Then you will change climate and make it more moderate especially for the hot countries like India, the Middle East etc. Look at what has been done in Israel, whether you like them or not.
And two, you can then stop being a Malthusian zombie. Yes, it's true, genocide is sexy!

I'm gen Y....

And I'm cool with forests. I love forests. I like water projects.

I'm pretty against killing people.

But um, that doesn't really convince me the Climate change is untrue. Or even have alot to do with it.

Until somebody who's scientiffic opinion I hold in high regard indicates otherwise, I'm pretty convinced Climate change is a reality.

Not to say anything against you specifically Howards - I just wouldn't base my scientiffic belief of any blogger I'd never met.

You know, why don't we save the great barrier reef, thousands of lakes, endangered animals and all that.

Are you going to deny the amazon rainforest isn't being destroyed or that animals are dying out? Or are you going to start denying those too?

Believe it or not the only way we can end the aforementioned problems is by cutting down on our uses of our dwindling resources and focusing on cleaning stuff up. Sure it will cost a little bit more, but rich people won't get richer under it, which is why, at the end of the day, we don't move that way.

and people like you actually without even noticing it support some of the most crooked people in existence. I still don't understand what scientific merit Hitler has, nor do I see what the Middle East and Israel has anything to do with it. BUt hey what the hey, fullfilling political agendas is mor eimportant than reality.

Your problem is you're looking at the situation through very, very narrow eyes.

Let me tell you, the increasing warming of the earths average temperature is causing problems, one of which is with the poles.

Mm, how so? Well both poles have largely self contained atmospheres. However the marked increase in humidity caused by the heat around the poles is causing the self contained atmospheres in the poles to break away, cold air is escaping and is making some parts of the earth colder.

Scientists reported on that, not politicians.

I regret to inform Ahmed, etc that "Global Warming Action, Mobilization, etc" are not, repeat, not about stopping Global Warming.
(They really don't give a shit about GW to tell the the truth, the disciples of the late Margaret Mead, the foundations, etc). It is just marketing.

The right wing is sold on genocide by "stop the terrorists", etc. The Saudis are sold on the Iran war on the basis of "stop the Shiites". The same in Aus, etc, whatever the profile.

The "left wing" is sold on genocide on "save the polar bear, save the rain forest, etc" to kill billions of people.

And the bleepin' WWF, environmentalists etc actually destroyed the rain forest by being part of a mobilization (or conspiracy, or political witchhunt) to stop nuclear power production in Brazil in the 1970s.

Thank you for your time.

Incase you didn't notice I'm not doing this in the name of the left, nor am I doing this in the name of genocide.

Quite the opposite actually, I'm in it to try and keep the planet going for long and stronger. I can't speak on bhealf of other people but scientifically speaking at least I know I'm in the clear.

Your fantasies, sexual or otherwise have no bearing on what you and millions of others are really doing. Marketing is the key. Or as PT Barnum said "there's a sucker born every minute."

and not acting on what is happening will undoubtedly end iwth many millions of people killed at the proft of oil companies.

You see, both sides have the ability to profiteer, I'm not ednying that, however, I'm not arguing this on political grounds.

Global climate change is real, and it has to be looked into rationally and scientifically. Not politicially as the case may be by the likes of Al Gore or George Bush or Rupert Murdoch.

Now, ask yourself, why do I want to put the environment back into harmony? To save lives, to increase peoples lives, to save the planet, to have a green forest when I'm older. All of that, won't last very long, if we do what we have been doing all this time.

I'm not in it to provide a solution here, this topic isn't about finding a solution to the problem, this topic is about the existence of the problem.
