Couch Surfing

Travel is awesome; however accommodation is ruthlessly expensive. Personally, I prefer to travel to see friends, and stay with them.
I remember hearing something about how, at the peak of the punk movement, punks would wander around staying at each others homes based on a complex underground network and thinking what an awesome thing that would be.
Awesome ideas don’t disappear; they just mutate. The present mutation of the idea under discussion can be seen in a website; www.couchsurfing.com
The premise of the page, is to connect likeminded people in a way that allows for a network of travellers to assist each other with accommodation. It has a strong focus on community, safety and practicality.
Basically it’s an exercise in pure awesome, and I would recommend it to anyone to give it a shot.
