Good Pet Names
December 21st 2008 05:44
Not for your pets; for your significant other. What sort of thing should you refer to them as, for a pet name?
Secondly, recognise the purpose of pet names. What we’re looking at here is the idea of in group language. You know how you might call your mate ‘oii scumface’ but ,might not use the same expression in friendly conversation with your teacher? Same kind of thing. The language we’re developing here will create a code between you and your partner that defines your relationship as different to those of individuals around you.
Don’t repeat. Or do repeat, if you feel like it. However, just because your partner calls you one thing doesn’t mean you have to say the same especially if it feels unnatural to you. Be smart about it.
Finally, (really this isn’t a complicated idea to deconstruct) don’t bother. Seriously. If you have to try at all, you’re trying too hard. It’s like how do you fall in love with somebody. If it’s the right situation it will develop of its own accord naturally enough. Just don’t overthink it, don’t force it, and don’t be timid and it will work out.
